VisualSVN Server is a software that allows you to host and manage Subversion repositories on Windows. It comes with a modern web interface, PowerShell scripting, full-text search, scheduled backup jobs, multisite replication, and more. Depending on your needs, you can choose from different license types: Community, Essential, Enterprise, or Enterprise Multinode.
In this article, we will explain how to get a license key for VisualSVN Server and how to activate it.
Community license
The Community license is free and available for commercial use. It activates automatically on computers that do not belong to an Active Directory domain. You do not need to take any special steps to activate the Community license.
If your computer belongs to an Active Directory domain, you should purchase a commercial license. You can find the licensing details and prices on the VisualSVN | Pricing page.
Commercial licenses
You should receive the commercial VisualSVN license key by email after purchase. Follow these steps to activate the license key:
- Start Visual Studio.
- On the menu bar, choose Extensions | VisualSVN | Registration (in Visual Studio 2017 or older choose VisualSVN | Registration).
- Click Enter License Key.
- Copy-paste the license key.
- Click the OK button to activate your license.
The license activation process is identical for Open Source, MVP and Classroom licenses that you can also request on the VisualSVN | Pricing page.
Enterprise Multinode license
The Enterprise Multinode license can be used on all nodes in a single VDFS cluster â a group of servers connected to each other by VDFS replication links. You can find out more about VDFS on the VisualSVN Server | VDFS page.
To activate the Enterprise Multinode license, you need to enter the same license key on each node of the cluster. Follow the same steps as for the commercial licenses above.
How to renew or upgrade your license
All VisualSVN Server licenses are perpetual (with 12 months of free upgrades), but you need to renew your license in order to have access to newer VisualSVN Server versions when the 12-months maintenance period ends. You can renew your license online or contact sales@visualsvn.com for assistance.
If you need to add more users or nodes to your existing license, you can upgrade your license to a bigger size. You can find the upgrade rules and prices on the Pricing | VisualSVN Server page.
