How to Edit Your Diablo 2 Median XL Characters with Hero Editor
Diablo 2 Median XL is a popular mod that changes many aspects of the original game, such as skills, items, monsters, locations and gameplay. However, some players may want to tweak their characters further, or experiment with different builds and items. For that purpose, there is a tool called Hero Editor that allows you to edit your character’s stats, skills, inventory and more.
Hero Editor is a third-party program that works with the original Diablo 2 game, but not with Median XL directly. Therefore, you need to convert your Median XL character files to the original format before using Hero Editor, and then convert them back after editing. This can be done easily with another tool called Median XL Offline Tools, which also has other useful features such as respecing, renaming and sorting stash.
In this article, we will show you how to use Hero Editor and Median XL Offline Tools to edit your Diablo 2 Median XL characters. Please note that this is considered cheating and may ruin your enjoyment of the game. Use it at your own risk and discretion.
Step 1: Download and Install Hero Editor and Median XL Offline Tools
You can download Hero Editor from here and Median XL Offline Tools from here. Extract the files to any folder you like and run the executables. You may need to run them as administrator if you encounter any problems.
Step 2: Convert Your Median XL Character to Original Format
Open Median XL Offline Tools and click on the “Open” button at the top left corner. Navigate to your Diablo 2 save folder (usually C:\Users\YourName\Saved Games\Diablo II) and select your Median XL character file (usually named after your character with a .d2s extension). Click on the “Convert” button at the top right corner and choose “To Vanilla” option. This will create a backup of your original file and convert it to the original Diablo 2 format.
Step 3: Edit Your Character with Hero Editor
Open Hero Editor and click on the “Open” button at the top left corner. Navigate to your Diablo 2 save folder again and select your converted character file (usually named after your character with a _backup.d2s extension). You can now edit your character’s stats, skills, inventory and more using the various tabs and buttons in Hero Editor. You can also import or export items from other files or online sources using the “Item/Character” menu. When you are done editing, click on the “Save” button at the top left corner.
Step 4: Convert Your Edited Character Back to Median XL Format
Open Median XL Offline Tools again and click on the “Open” button at the top left corner. Navigate to your Diablo 2 save folder again and select your edited character file (usually named after your character with a _backup.d2s extension). Click on the “Convert” button at the top right corner and choose “To Sigma” option. This will overwrite your original file with the edited one and convert it back to the Median XL format.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Edited Character in Diablo 2 Median XL
You can now launch Diablo 2 Median XL and play with your edited character. However, be aware that some changes may not work properly or cause errors in the game. For example, adding skills or items that are not available in Median XL may cause crashes or glitches. Also, editing your character may affect your online compatibility with other players or servers. Therefore, it is recommended to backup your files before editing and use this tool only for offline or single player mode.
