Jah Cure and Damian Marley Celebrate 4/20 with “Marijuana” Single and Video
Grammy-nominated reggae superstar Jah Cure has teamed up with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley for a new single titled “Marijuana”, which was released on VP Records on April 19, 2019. The song is a tribute to the herb that both artists love and advocate for its legalization and medicinal use.
The song was produced and written by Jah Cure, Damian Marley, Frederick Seymour and Anwar McDonald for Iyah Cure Music Ltd. It features a smooth and catchy melody, with Jah Cure’s soulful vocals and Damian’s rap verses blending harmoniously over a reggae beat. The lyrics praise the benefits of cannabis, such as “CBD is my medicine” and “the seeds can replace your petroleum”, while also criticizing the legal drugs that are killing people.
The official audio of the song was uploaded on YouTube on April 19, 2019, and has received over 900,000 views so far. The official music video was premiered on Complex on the same day, and shows Jah Cure and Damian Marley enjoying some ganja in various locations, such as a farm, a studio and a rooftop. “Marijuana” is not the first collaboration between Jah Cure and Damian Marley. The two artists have previously worked together on the song “Zion Train” from Jah Cure’s 2014 album The Cure, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. They have also performed together on several occasions, such as the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise and the Rebel Salute festival.
