How to Download and Install Jamf Self Service for Mac

Jamf Self Service is a tool that allows you to manage your Mac and access various resources and services provided by Jamf Pro, such as installing software, running scripts, or requesting support. There are two ways to download and install Jamf Self Service for Mac: automatically or manually using a policy.

Automatic Installation

If Jamf Self Service is configured to install automatically in Jamf Pro, it will be installed on your Mac the next time it checks in with Jamf Pro. It will also be installed on your Mac as it is newly enrolled. To check if Jamf Self Service is installed automatically, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Jamf Pro.
  2. In the top-right corner of the page, click Settings.
  3. Click Self Service.
  4. Click macOS.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. If the Install Automatically checkbox is selected, Jamf Self Service will be installed automatically on your Mac.

Manual Installation Using a Policy


Automatic Installation

If Jamf Self Service is not configured to install automatically, or if you want more control over the installation, you can download the latest version of Jamf Self Service for manual installation using a policy on your Mac. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Jamf Pro.
  2. In the top-right corner of the page, click Settings.
  3. Click Self Service.
  4. Click macOS.
  5. Click Download. The Self Service.tar.gz file will be downloaded immediately.
  6. Double-click the file to decompress it.
  7. Use Composer or another package-building tool to package the Self Service application included in the file. For information on building packages using Composer, see the Composer User Guide.
  8. Add the package to Jamf Admin or Jamf Pro. For more information, see Package Management.
  9. Create a policy to install Self Service. For detailed instructions, see Package Deployment.

How to Use Jamf Self Service for Mac

Once Jamf Self Service is installed on your Mac, you can launch it from the Applications folder or the Dock. You will see a window with various categories and icons that represent the resources and services available to you. You can browse through the categories or use the search bar to find what you need. To access a resource or service, simply click on its icon and follow the instructions. Some examples of what you can do with Jamf Self Service are:

  • Install software that is approved or required by your organization.
  • Run scripts that perform various tasks or fix common issues.
  • Request support from your IT department or submit feedback.
  • View information about your Mac, such as its serial number, OS version, or disk space.
